2027 Harley-Davidson Sprint 440: First Look and First Ride of the New Entry-Level Harley

Harley-Davidson's new entry-level Sprint 440 is finally here. It arrives first in Canada, Europe and most of the rest of the world, with American customers waiting until Spring 2027. The delay lets Harley-Davidson assemble every US-bound Sprint at its Vehicle Operations plant in York, Pennsylvania.
The Sprint 440 is based on the X440 and X440T, two models jointly designed and engineered with Hero MotoCorp and licensed to carry the Harley-Davidson brand. Where the X440 leaned toward a standard roadster shape, the Sprint 440 adopts more of a cruiser stance to serve as the entry point to the larger Harley-Davidson range.
Engine and chassis
The engine is a 440cc air and oil-cooled single, with Harley-Davidson claiming a peak output of 27 hp at 6,000 rpm and 28 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. Harley opted for the simple single to minimize weight and complexity and reduce maintenance costs, which makes sense for a bike aimed at new riders.
Claimed curb weight is 412 pounds, roughly 69 pounds lighter than the Nightster 975, and the 26.9 inch seat height (26.4 inches laden) should make the bike accessible to shorter and less experienced riders. In the US, the Sprint 440 will also become the bike of choice for the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy.

First ride impressions
On the road, the Sprint 440 spreads its 28 lb-ft of torque across a broad rev range, which makes it easy to ride and forgiving if you miss a shift. Keep it between 3,000 and 5,500 rpm, short of the 6,000 rpm redline, and it sits in its happy place. You will not win many drag races, but you will not feel like a moving roadblock around town or on the highway either.
Harley also spent serious time tuning the exhaust, with many hours in its internal sound room to make the single sound inspiring rather than boring. It will never be mistaken for a 45-degree Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin, but the single muffler emits a surprisingly throaty, deep note. The takeaway from the first ride is simple: an approachable, well-sorted gateway into the Harley-Davidson family that does not break the bank.
